ESOI ANNOUNCES WORKSHOP ON ENVIRONMENT LAWS & SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI) has announced a series of 2-day workshops on “Environment Laws & Sustainable Tourism” to sensitize the tourism service providers on the applicable environmental laws to tourism industry, as well as on the mechanisms to achieve Sustainable Tourism in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice President of the Society, Mr. Toby Sinclair said “last year when we did the first workshop in Delhi, coinciding with the World Tourism Day, a lot of participants were quite surprised to know these laws applicable to their trade and profession, which was quite an eye opener. This year we are continuing the series in partnership with Centre for Environmental Law – WWF India, across three States”. He added that the workshops are being supported by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India as well as PATA India Chapter.

Mr. Mandip Singh Soin, President of the Society said that ESOI has recently been officially designated by the MoT, Govt. of India as their partner in formulating appropriate code of conduct and guidelines on ethical practices to achieve Sustainable Tourism, and to position India as a global ecotourism destination.

Course Objectives

  1. To raise awareness on responsible/sustainable tourism by drawing in success stories from field.
  2. To research and develop a comprehensive information package on responsible mechanisms, environmental law and policy relating to tourism in India, and
  3. To disseminate information and create awareness on the interface between tourism and environmental conservation.

Course Duration

The project will aim at compiling an information package, which offers in one place all the law and policy relating to environmental protection and tourism. This information capsule would then be disseminated in workshops designed for service providers. The workshops would be conducted on week-ends.

Course Schedule

December 12 – 13, 2009: New Delhi

January 16 – 17, 2010: Wayanad, Kerala

February 13 – 14, 2010: Gangtok, Sikkim

The subsidized participation fee is Rs.3,500/- per person.
