ESOI ANNOUNCES ITS FIFTH WORKSHOP ON RESPONSIBLE TOURISM IN MAHABALIPURAM

Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI) will hold its fifth India Series Workshop on ’PRACTISING RESPONSIBLE TOURISM‘, for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, on 26th & 27th November 2010 at INDeco Hotels, Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu.

The workshop has been arranged by ESOI with the support of Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, Department of Tourism, Government of Tamil Nadu, WWF India, PATA India, Intach Puducherry, Intach Tamil Nadu and private sector stakeholders. The hospitality partner is INDeco Hotels.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Steve Borgia, Founding Member of ESOI and Convenor of the Workshop, said the workshop aims at setting corrective and curative measures with regard to ecological practices and conservation of nature with absolute focus on Southern Coasts and hill stations.

Eminent speakers at the workshop will include Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, senior representatives of the central ministries of Tourism and Environment and Forests, Chief Secretary, Puducherry, Dr. Venu V, Secretaries and Managing Directors of State Tourism Departments and Corporations, State Environment Department representatives, Mr. Rakesh Mathur, Mr. Jose Dominic, Mr.Steve Borgia, Mr. Prem Subramanian, Mr. Ashok Panda, Mr. Mandip Singh Soin, Dr.V.N. Singh, WWF India representative, Mr. R. Muthiah, Mr. Aman Nath, Mr Romulus Whittaker and hill area conservationists, among others.

This is part of series of workshops being organised by ESOI in various States to sensitize the tourism service providers on the interface of environmental and forest law with tourism industry, as well as on the mechanisms to achieve Sustainable Tourism in the country. The interactive sessions shall also share the concerns, experiences and challenges as practitioners of Responsible Tourism.

The registration fee is being kept at a nominal amount of Rs.2,500/- per person. Management students can avail of 50% discount. Special discounted accommodation is offered from Rs. 500/- (sharing) to Rs.2,000/- for the benefit of the participants.
